Tropical Storm Tammy Forecast Verification
Written by Derek Ortt on February 27, 2006
There were only three forecasts written on Tammy due to its short life span. Track forecasts indicated a landfall in northern Florida, where the landfall occurred. Track errors were slightly larger than average solely due to the forecasts after landfall, as the acceleration to the west and WSW was not anticipated. Intensity forecasts were about average, though no forecasts brought the system above a moderate tropical storm of 45KT. Weakening over land at a faster than expected rate was the cause for the errors being close to average.
A Tropical Storm Warning was recommended from Flaglar Beach to the SC/GA border at 1500 UTC 10/5. Three hours later this was shifted north to include areas from Jacksonville to Charleston, and 6 hours later, extended to Myrtle Beach. These were dropped at 1500 UTC 10/6.
