Tropical Storm Gamma Forecast Verification
Written by Derek Ortt on June 20, 2006
Forecasts were only issued on Gamma prior to its dissipation. After it reformed, only updates were issued; thus, the verification only contains phase 1 of Gamma. The track forecasts during this phase of Gamma were generally poor as except for the 120 hour time period, the mean error was greater than the long-term mean. Intensity forecasts were very good, with no error greater than 15KT.
It should be noted that only the times when Gamma was a tropical cyclone were statistics generated. The tropical wave phase has been discarded. However, even though forecasts were only issued prior to the initial dissipation, statistics were generated for the times when it reformed, as is the standard practice.
