Hurricane Lisa Forecast Verification
Written by Derek Ortt on June 1, 2005
There were only two forecasts issued for Hurricane Lisa. Lisa occurred at the same time as did Hurricane Jeanne. Since Jeanne was a threat to land, specifically the Miami area, all resources were focused on Jeanne.
While two cases in not enough to qualify as a representative sample, the forecasts that were issued did not correctly anticipate the interaction with Jeanne and a disturbance to its east. Jeanne was forecast to move to the west, when it actually moved to the SE as it was merging with the trailing disturbance. This produced above average track errors, except for the 12-hour time period. Intensity forecast errors also were large.
