Residents of Hawaii need to closely monitor the progress of this developing cyclone

Currently, the center of Tropical Depression 10-E is located near 14.3N and 130.7W. This places the center about 1500 miles ESE of Hawaii. The motion is to the WNW near 10 m.p.h. and this track should continue for a few days, bringing thesystem near Hawaii early next week.

Maximum winds are near 35 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 1006mb. Conditions are favorable for further devleopment and this system is expected to become a tropical storm today and a hurricane by Saturday.

2 P.M. PDT 8/28/2003 TROPICAL STORM JIMENA UPDATE #2

Residents of Hawaii need to closely monitor the progress of Jimena. Jimenna is expected to be near the area in a few days, possibly as a hurricane.

Currently, the center of Tropical Storm Jimenna is located near 14.7N and 132.5W. This places the center about 1400 miles ESE of Hawaii. The motion is to the WNW near 12 m.p.h. This general track is expected to continue during the next day or so, with a possible turn to the west. It is too early to call whether or not landfall will occur; however, residents should be aware of this possibility.

Maximum winds are estimated to have increased to near 50 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 1000mb. Conditions appear ideal for significant intensification and Jimena could become a hurricane sometime tomorrow or on Saturday.

Jimena is exploding and is expected to threaten Hawaii. Residents of Hawaii should closely monitor the progress of this system.

Currently, the developing eye of Tropical Storm Jimena is located near 15.6N and 133.6W. this places the eye about 1350 miles ESE of Hawaii. the motion is to the WNW near 13 m.p.h. This track is expected to continue for the next few days, with a turn back to the west as the system approaches Hawaii. Closest approach or landfall is expected either Monday or Tuesday.

Maximum winds are set at a conservative 60 m.p.h. It is possible that the winds are stronger. The pressure is estimated to be 9944mb. Significant intensification into a near major hurricane is now expected over the next few days due to favorable atmospheric conditions.

2 A.M. PDT 8/28/2003 TROPICAL STORM JIMENA UPDATE #4

Jimena is exploding and is expected to threaten Hawaii. Residents of Hawaii should closely monitor the progress of this system.

Currently, the developing eye of Tropical Storm Jimena is located near 16.4N and 134.6W. This places the eye about 1250 miles ESE of Hawaii. the motion is to the WNW near 12 m.p.h. This track is expected to continue for the next few days, witha turn back to the west as the system approaches Hawaii. Closest approach or landfall is expected either Monday or Tuesday.

Maximum winds ar set at a conservative 65 m.p.h. It is possible that the winds are stronger. The pressure is estimated to be 994mb. The track of Jimena will be closely monitored as it is in 27-28 C waters, a further northward track may place thisTC in slightly cooler waters for a bit of time, cutting down on the intensity. Nevertheless, significant intensification into a near major hurricane is possible over the next few days due to favorable atmospheric conditions.

8 A.M. PDT 8/29/2003 HURRICANE JIMENA UPDATE #5

Jimena conitnues to rapidly intensify and is now a hurricane. residents of Hawaii should have a plan of action in case the system poses a significant threat to the area as expected and follow all advice given by local emergency management officials.

Currently, the eye of Hurricane Jimenna is located near16.8N and 136.0W. This places the eye about 1200 miles ESE of Hawaii. The motion is to the WNW near 13 m.p.h. This track is expected for about 36 hours, followed by a turn back to the west. The current ttrack keeps the eye south of Hawaii, though landfall is well within the margin of error and even if this track verifies, Hawaii will likely experience hurricane force winds.

Maximum winds are near 75 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 988mb. Continued intensification into a strong category 2 hurricane is expected during the enxt few days as the system approahces the islands.

2 P.M. PDT 8/29/2003 HURRICANE JIMENA UPDATE #6

Jimena conitnues to intensify as it heads toward Hawaii. residents of Hawaii should continue to monitor the progress of Jimena very closely and have a plan of action incase conditions warrant. In addition, comply with any advice and or orders given by local emergency management officials.

Currently, the eye of Hurricane Jimena is located near 17.1N and 137.4W. This places the eye about 1100 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii. The motion is to the WNW near 14 m.p.h. A westward turn is expected in about 24 hours; however, the track is expected to be either very close to or over Hawaii either on Monday or Tuesday. This represents an increase in the forward speed from the 1500 UTC forecast.

Maximum winds have increased to near 85 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 980mb. Continued intensification into a near major hurricane is expected before the hurricane makes landfall or its closest pass to Hawaii.
