8 P.M. PDT 6/16/2003 TROPICAL DEPRESSION 2-E UPDATE #1

The disturbance near Acapulco has become better organized and has a closed surface circulation; therefore, updates are now being issued. Residents of the west coast of Mexico should monitor the progress of this system. Heavy rainfall is the greatest threat.

Currently, the center of newly formed Tropical Depression 2-E is located near 16.5N and 103.1W. This places the system about 125 miles away from the west coast of Mexico, a little north of Acapulco. The motion is to the north near 5 m.p.h., though a westerly bend is expected before landfall.

Maximum winds are estimated to be near 30 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 1007mb. Slight additional intensification is expected over the next few days and the system could become a tropical storm within the next 24 to 36 hours.

Tropical Depression 2 continues to bring rains to the coastal areas near Acapulco and to the north

Currently, the center of Tropical Depression 2-E is located near 17.0N and 103.5W. This places the center about 150 miles from the Mexican Coast. The motion is to the NNW near 5 m.p.h.This motion should continue for about 24 hours, before bending more to the west, keeping the system offshore.

Maximum winds have increased to near 35 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 1005mb. Slight intensification is expected and the system could become a tropical storm, before weakening in an unfavorable environment.

Outer rainbands of Blanca continue to bring rain showers to the Mexican Coast. Up to 3 inches of rain can be expected in coastal areas. residents of the west coast of Mexico should continue to monitor the progress of Blanca.

Currently, the center of Tropical Storm Blanca is located near 16.7N and 103.7W. This places the center about 130 miles to the SW of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico. There is little motion at this time, though a slow NW motion is expected during the next 24 hours, keeping the center offshore.

Maximum winds have increased to near 50 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 1000mb. Slight additional intensification is expected during the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual weakening.

Blanca continues to move slowly, bringing rainfall to the coastal regions. Up to 3 inches of rain is possible.

Currently, the center of Tropical Storm Blanca is located near 16.7N and 104.0W. This places the center about 150 miles to the SW of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico. There is little current motion, though a NW motion is expected to begin soon.

Maximum winds remain near 50 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 1000mb. Slight additional intensification is possible before the onset of weakening, though Blanca is not expected to reach hurricane intensity at this time.

Currently, the center of Tropical Storm Blanca is located near 16.6N and 103.8W. This places the center about 155 miles SW of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico. There is little current motion, though a gradual WNW to NW track should begin soon.

Maximum winds remain near 50 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 1000mb. Slight additional intensification is possible today before a general weakening trend begins.

Currently, the center of Tropical Storm Blanca is located near 16.7N and 104.8W. This places the center about 150 miles SW of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico. The motion is to the west near 3 m.p.h. A WNW motion is expected over the next few days, taking the system farther from land.

Maximum winds remain near 60 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 997mb. Blanca has intesified slightly today. However, A slow weakening is expected over the next few days as conditions become less favorable for intensification, followed by a more dramatic weakening once Blanca runs into the colder waters, vertical shear and dry air to the north and west.

Maximum winds remain near 50 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 1000mb. Slow weakening is expected during the next few days, with dissipation beginning in about 72 hours.

Maximum winds have decreased to near 45 m.p.h. The pressure is estimated to be 1003mb. Continued weakening to a remnant low is expected within the next 72 hours due to unfavorable atmospheric conditions.

Satellite imagery indicates that Blanca has continued to weaken and is now a remnant low with winds below 30 m.p.h. The center is located near 15.5N and 106.0W. There is little motion at this time and none is expected with Blanca is dissipating.
